Frequently Asked Questions
1. What exactly does this service help?
Managing the balance between the demands of endurance sport and academics using training literacy and timetable planning to maximise potential in both areas while maximising recovery
2. Who is this service designed for?
Athletes who are also pursuing education at secondary school level or above, and current secondary students (NCEA, IB, Cambridge) who intend to ensure balance between rigorous academics to achieve their potential.
3. Is this a coaching service or a training programme?
This service does not provide coaching or training plans; it focuses on the systems, habits, and recovery structures that allow student-athletes to sustain both academic and athletic performance.
4. Does this service replace a coach, teacher, or tutor?
No. Our services focus on changing daily habits and routines, and training literacy courses to understand the science behind physical activity, which does not include academic tutoring or prescription of specific workouts tailored to the athlete.
5. What kind of outcomes should participants realistically expect?
Habitual changes and consistency in daily routines which have a direct impact on academic or physical performance to avoid compromised recovery - ie. avoiding studying after 8pm to ensure memory retention and fact recall of key concepts during examination period
6. What is a difference between a performance audit and a training programme?
Performance audit is a holistic assessment of dual career or academic balance, which emphasises on habits and routines to maximise academic and physical potential, whereas a training programme is a structured plan tailored to the client only to satisfy physiological means through prescription of specified workouts.
7. Is the advice personalised or general?
The service uses evidence-based dual-career frameworks, with recommendations adapted to each athlete’s individual circumstances.
8. What responsibilities remain within the student-athlete?
To actively manage balance between academics and endurance sports through the introduction of habits and routines in the performance audit, and identify the appropriate recovery signals that maximise performance between both areas.
9. Is this service suitable for athletes outside road cycling?
Absolutely - high-volume sports like triathlon, rowing, and waterpolo require careful balance with studies to achieve both physiological and academic potential without compromising recovery.
10. If I already have a coach or tutor, is this still useful?
Definitely - The Dual Collective sits at an intersection between academic or physiological performance and emphasises on the repeatability of habits and routines which acts as the foundation for both reaching potential in both areas.
